The United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme for the International Day of Peace in 2019 is “Climate Action for Peace”. [Download the flyer <PDF> or <jpg> AND the postcard <jpg>. See below for more L4P celebration ideas.]
Observe Climate Action for Peace
In the lead up to the International Day of Peace on 21 September, the United Nations calls upon all to take action:
- You can support SDG 13 Climate Action by seeking peaceful resolution of conflict when disagreements arise around you. You can be part of the solution by changing your habits and routines, and making choices that have less harmful effects on the environment. Together, we have the power to confront the climate challenges..
- You can promote climate action by joining the ACTNOW campaign, a list of the 10 actions you can take to make a difference. Contribute to sustainable food consumption by cooking up dishes that are delicious and good for the people and planet from the UN’s Food Challenge.
- You can engage by participating in the fashion challenge to upcycle old clothes for new looks, as a way of changing our habits and routines and making choices that have less harmful effects on the environment.
- You can reflect and share on contributions from conferences help in the past as the UN heads towards the Climate Action Summit 2019.
